To facilitate the process of depollution and dismantling, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has collaborated with other manufacturers to develop an information database called IDIS (International Dismantling Information System). IDIS contains data on the material composition of vehicle components, on the draining of fluids and on the handling of pyrotechnic components as well as information on any special tools needed. IDIS information is currently available on CD ROM, with an online version being produced which will enable direct access via the Internet. Because IDIS is updated twice a year, the information it contains on end-of-life vehicle handling for the operators concerned is always current.
IDIS is a common international platform for information; it can be used by all operators dealing in the dismantling of end-of-life vehicles to retrieve comprehensive information on the relevant criteria for discharging hazardous waste.
